München: 4 Lions and 4 Wishes.

NYC fashionweek is coming up. So is München fashionweek. It is the first time in 4 years that I do not spend this week in NYC. It is a weird feeling.

But seriously, it is nowhere I rather be then in Bavaria right now (yes, my dear friends in Thailand, I am also counting in Asia:). It is chilled here. I am staying in an area called Glockenbachviertel. For you who don’t know the city one can describe it as a more relax area. I would compare it a bit to Schöneberg in Berlin. To be honest, very few cities I know has such an area. It is relaxed, not too young and wanna-be-cool. Just nice.

Most cafes and restaurants I visited are really special and of high quality. It is established, but feels individual. You find tons of small vintage shops, coffee shops, wine stores and speciality stores.  And it is all really down to earth. Simple. Not the bling-y-show-off-but-oh-so-cheap München that you see sometimes.

Just a bit too cold here right now.

Some favorites in the area so far are:

  • Aroma. Sweet cafe. Already wrote about it in November.
  • das Kranz. Organic. Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Loved their Tunefish and an extra portion of Mangold.
  • Götterspeise. Not where I would go myself but still  great. For the ones that like sweet things.
  • Alof. Small and Sweet bakery in the Hans Sachs strasse run by the Bread loving and all-around-the-world traveling Photographer Yorick Carroux. I would go for their homemade sourdough bread.
  • A Japanese Bistro in Maistrasse
  • Lotus Blute Massage. Not fancy, but excellent relaxation after a hard working day. Sarah + Friend, thank you for the tip!!

Any tips in the area are highly appreciated.

1) Food – stores, restaurants, breakfast places.

2) Relaxation: places to get the best facial/pedicure you name it.

3) I am also looking for good Vintage. Also traditional bavarian vintage.

4) And, as always: hunting wear. Maybe you know something?

Also (a fifth wish, is it allowed?) since I will be driving west next week, if you have any tips for culinary excursions in the surroundings, feel free to share!
