Good mood, but I need to work on those elbows

I am a bit disappointed with myself. Normally a love to turn a cancelled flight into an adventure but today no no no. I just want to go home. It is 4 days left in Berlin before Christmas and there are tons of things I want to do, and many friends I want to see. And many presents I need to get.

This morning I woke up in a white Amsterdam. At lunch it was clear that the air traffic was going to be a problem. So I booked a train ticket just in case. They canceled it too. So I booked an other KLM flight ticket. I was really lucky to get a taxi.
My mood was on top.
I was on time.

The taxi driver took detours since the autobahn was closed down. We were sliding around in the woods and along canals in his car with summer wheels. The countryside was so pretty. Since the roads were empty it looked totally untouched. I had to think of paintings by Avercamp. Or Koekkoek.

The taxi drive from  Zuid Station to Schiphol took 2,5 hours (normally a 5 min drive).
When I got to the airport both my flights were cancelled. Screwed. No taxis to get back to Amsterdam. No trains to get back to Amsterdam. And no busses. I noticed myself thinking “phu, luckily I travel with a yoga madras and a long winter coat. I can sleep anywhere”.
But if I am not going to win the first price (Berlin) I will at least fight hard for the 2nd (a good bed in a nice Hotel). So I needed to get myself back to Amsterdam.
I was hard to compete with the french guy that offered the taxi driver 300 euros to take him back. Or the two japanese guys that offered 600 (each) to get driven to brussels. They offered me to join.
Thank you but no thank you.

Somehow I made it back to the city (I used the good mood and not the elbows). I let the taxidriver drop me off at my favorite spot from Yesterday “An”. Feels like home already. Thank God.

I’m sorry you are stuck in Amsterdam but I loved your post and the way in which you handle it. I wish I could be so calm in situations like that. Enjoy the nice hotel, have a wonderful Xmas.

Sorry to hear that. But you had an amazing point of view for all these events. I felt kinda confused these days. I just want to bake cupcakes and cookies for loved ones. And white chocolate brownies. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a very good mood.

That’s pretty Zen. I admire that… i would have snapped by now. Hope you made it to Berlin safe by now.

    I am back.
But It will not be much Zen if they hold me here for Xmas.

Have a great Holiday Xaver. See you in 2011. If you dont want one of the breads today :)

Man, Xaver, I wish I was way more Zen then I am. How was New Year? I wish you all the best in what is to come!
