When I was writing my Stockholm story for my book it was hard not to write about the water. Because the water is one of the things I love the most about Stockholm.
Stockholm is built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges. It is a pretty stunning view. Since Stockholm was build as a water city it was also meant to show off from the seaside. Many of the most impressive buildings are built along the water, which You would miss if you only stay on the islands. You need to get into the boat to get a distance and fully feel the beauty of Stockholm. But, it is easy and the city is full of water boats and tours.
To get out of the city you need to use the floodgate at „Slussen“. This lock is connecting the lake Mälaren with the Baltic Sea since they are located on different levels. The gate origins from 1642 but todays face was set in the 1930’s. The picture below is from 1935 and shows how the roads are connecting the Old Town and Södermalm.
Within the lock you need to hold on to the ropes along the wall and use your feet not to scrape the surface of the boat.
We went out towards Djurgården (Tiergarten in Swedish) to take a swim and have pick nick.
When I look at the last days pictures I think one oft he best things with Stockholm must be the closeness to clean water. I know, there are many capitals located on the sea side, but to be able to jump in almost everywhere (just watch out for the streamy places…) is amazing.
Ps. If you have time you should also get out into the Stockholm Archipelago. But this area deserves its own post.

With a History at Levi’s Vintage I just have to comment on Sandras Jeans. I love the light wash in the reproduction oft he 501 from 1947. And it looks great on Ladies. Think about Marilyn Monroe, she wore them all the time.
