Bread Exchange on German TV

To express myself soft; I was shit nervous.

And I am almost just as nervous to see the result of the studio recording.

On wednesday night I am interviewed on German Television, Deutsche Welle. The show, “Insight Germany”, is broadcasted outside of Germany on Wednesday 6.15pm. Yes, the German TV Channel Deutsche Welle can be watched everywhere in the world. And, from wednesday night, if you can’t find it with your remote control, you can also see the show here.

The Show is in English, which is not very common here as everything in this country tend to be synchronized into German…

Hello Miss Emlid, i watched the show recently and yeah you are a bit nervous, but overall it’s really awesome, especially about your activities in bread making, and how could you manage to do that between your activities as Levi’s Vintage Manager? i am not really fond of bread because i’m from Indonesia and we eat rice all the time, but as my work requires me to travel across the middle east so i find something nice in bread, i don’t know if you have tried any type of bread from middle east such khubs or samona but taste really good especially when it’s fresh and still warm. Anyway keep on baking and good luck!

Watched it. Loved it. But was a little disappointed by two major omissions: the great variety of Italian bread (I’ve lived in Germany… and I just can’t imagine any German bread to go as well with prosciutto, coppa, ragu bolognese, etc. as ‘Ferrarese bread’ or many other of the Italian bread varieties). Also, bread should be good on its own, not with butter on it… Second major omission: the fashion week in Milan, which according to many is even better than Paris :-) Can’t speak myself on that one though. Also, nice pants!

Thank you for your kind words. The Pants are the customized LVC Chinos made for women from year 1920.

I agree with you Federica, MY kind of perfect Bread is good on its own.
Regarding the Italian Bread. As Deutsche Welle is a German program about the connection between the interviewed person and the German culture was the focus set on this. The kind of bread I was lacking in Berlin was not the italian white kind of Bread, rather a kind of bread I had not found anywhere before. Maybe that was not made clear enough. What I hope I did make clear was that there are so many different kinds of Good Bread. SOme goes with better with Roquefort, and some is better with mussels. And some is NEEDED for a ragu bolognese (my favorite by the way). The Bread just need to be of High Quality
Many countries has good bread cultures that goes well with dishes from the region.

Ahh,,, the fight of the fashion capitals ;) I personally never worked with Brands that focus on Milan so for me NYC and Paris has always been the most important fashion cities. However, it all depends on what style and brands you are looking at. I do not consider the fashion developed in Paris to be superior, but the list of brands that deicide to show and present there are very very strong. I would say Stronger than any other city in the world.
The, to me :), most important brands still go to Paris. Some also go to NYC or Milan, but most of them always go to Paris. My experience as salesmanager since 6 years is that most influential overseas buyers (Asia, AUstralia and US) when they pick one European fair to go to they go to Paris.

But trends can change, and they always do :) There was a time when I even went to London for the fashionweek.

    Thank you for your Comment!

It could well be that Milan focuses on a different ‘fashion sector’. For sure it is a major appointment for a huge chunk of the high fashion designers (Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Cavalli…) and a big chunk of them are Italian… Keep in mind that Milan itself is far smaller than London or Paris (and isn’t even a capital), so it’s already quite impressive it competes with Paris. Anyway, you should try sometime… especially since there is a chance of running into George (Clooney)! But drive a bit further South for the best bread…

I think you are right, Milan is focusing on a different fashion sector. Italian fashion is very different from the scandinavian style I am brought up with and therefore I do not have a personal connection with it. LVC is showing at Pitti, but since the markets I work with do not go there I have never been.
If you would ask me on my personal taste what is a fashion city then I would answer Antwerp. That is a tiny city that is practically only known for its fashion. And it is a style that I very much like. But I still consider Paris to be the fashion capital, regardless if it touches my personal taste or not.
