A ship comes loaded

So, back from the holidays and guess what I brought?

Yes, that is correct; Food- The best souvenir there is.

I wish I could give you a description of the goods but unfortunately I do not know the name of most of the vegetables. What I do know is that The cucumber I am bringing has an insane bitter taste (I love bitter) and the brothers of zucchini has great white stripes and will lay wonderful in my kitchen window. The green bananas will rather join the green stilleben in my dining room and the banana flower will have to be eaten already tomorrow. Probably in some kind of curry but maybe I will make it into a pasta sauce. I think that the wood apple will make a great juice (or do you have another suggestion?). And the papayas, do I have to tell you what I will do with them?

——————————

If I use any of the veggies in a Bread, I will let you know. And, of course, bake it for you as soon as the sourdough is fit for a fight. Unfortunately he is always tired after too long chilling in the fridge.

Food souvenirs are the best souvenirs! And the ones you brought back look especially good.

That cucumber sounds and looks like a bitter gourd. I accidentally drank the juice of a bitter gourd one day in Mumbai. It wasn’t quite accidental, but I was told that it was a healthy juice and good for people with diabetes (not that I have diabetes, but I am always curious about food). That is how I learned just how bitter a bitter gourd is. But then when I was in Kerala I tried bitter gourd chips and my feelings towards that strange looking vegetable completely changed. so so good. http://www.cookatease.com/pavakkai-bitter-gourd-chips

You are right Nicole! I actually mainly found such recipes when I googled the fruit. But I also had an amazing wood apple jam in my hotel in Colombo before I went home. We will see. I only brought 6 fruits :(

    @ Federica
Check-in, yes. I do not think I would get it through any other way ;)
ps. only veggies, I am not bringing meats. Just to make sure I do not upset anyone here.

Hej Sasha, The chips sounds amazing.. I think I will add some to my fried eggs tomorrow morning too. I love the bitterness and I totally understand your curiosity towards diabetic diets – i am the same. No real need for it but somehow it tend to be how I like to eat. Papaya and cinnamon has the same benefit (lowering blood sugar) when you combine them.

Thanks. I know how hard it is to make sure you are following the right rules when transporting things by plane… And no, not upsetting one. It certainly is your right to eat and transport meat if you wish. (I, for one, do it all the time if I can: ragu bolognese from Italy, bits of salami…)

:) I do know that feeling. Every trip from sweden is a struggle with the overweight regulations too. It always ends up being the most expensive cottage cheese/Yoghurt/Ham/Crisp Bread ever..
