the soil of Lützen

I guess you know to story.

Sweden was at the top. But it all ended drastically the 6th of November (The Catholics used the Gregorian calender  which was the 16th of November) 1932 in Lützen. The fog and gun smoke was laying thick over the battle field and Gustaf II Adolf seem to have mistaken some of his men. He was killed by a black dressed man around 1 pm. The battle still ended as a Protestant victory. But for Sweden it was a loss. In Sweden we still celebrate this night with a ball in Gustaf II Adolfs memory.

When you take the car from Berlin to München you are passing the battlefield.

As a Swede I had to see the soil. It is really not much to see in Lützen then this, the soil.

But my imagination takes me far enough.

As a kid I was super excited about all these stories. I even had my parents to take me to look at the outfit Gustaf Adolf wore the day he got killed. At the castle in Stockholm they told me that there had been bubbles of air from 1632 coming out of the blood of his clothes. I could never forget this.

It was a nice outfit he wore by the way. It was a light top with 29 front buttons. The fabric had golden flowers on a silver bottom. He was wearing black patterned velvet over knee pants that he had tucked into his high boots. Chique.

Did you know that Bremen, Greifswald and even Nürnberg became Swedish after the peace of Westphalia in 1648? Well, it did not last long and I think Sweden lost most of it in 1712. I guess this is what our  national anthem is still refering to:

2
Thou rest upon memories of great olden days,
When honored thy name flew across the world,
I know that thou art and will be as thou were,
/: Yes, I want to live I want to die in the North :/
