All you need to know

We will continue to update this page with information.

Malin + Alex

Most of you knows both of us by now, but some of you don’t. And very few of you know eachother. This is also the reason why we really like to celebrate with you for a long weekend.

Time

We will start the party already on early friday. More info will follow….

Location

Timmernabben is a small sleepy coastal village in Småland, Sweden. 150 years ago the bay had 3 shipyards but today the only thing that reminds us of this is that most people in Timmernabben has some connection to the water. Sailing, kayaking, fishing are common hobbies.

In the 60′s and 70′s Timmernabben became known throughout Sweden for its great concerts with so called “dansbandsmusik”. There was a camping ground where parties were going on throughout the summer. In case you like camping, the camping ground is still in use.

Transport

The closest city is Kalmar which is located 35km south of Timmernabben. Regardless if you come with plane or train your should target Kalmar/Timmernabben as your final destination. An easy route would be to fly to Copenhagen and then take the train directly from the airport to Kalmar. The train takes ca 3,5 hours. Train tickets can be bought online here. You can also come with the train from Stockholm, but the train does not go directly from the airport so flying to Copenhagen is usually our first choice. Stockholm C-Kalmar with the train takes about 4,5-5 hours. Another option is to take the car from ether airport. Linköping or Växjö are other Airports which are not too far away from Kalmar.

Accommodation

There are no real hotels in the area. So to maximize the feeling of countryside we have been sourcing for private summer houses to rent. Most of them are oldfashion and simple.

We would suggest that you stay in Timmernabben. September is off season and the cost for one week in  a cottage is somewhere between 150 and 600 euro. Usually the price for one weekend is the same as for a whole week. Go Here for a list of houses to rent (in no specific order).

There is also a very simple and un-fancy Bed and Breakfast in Timmernabben. We have also blocked the Scout Cottage by the water

More info about the Region

Småland is not only the name for IKEAs daycare corner, it is also a region in Sweden. Malins grandfather used to say that when God made the Earth he first tested everything in Småland. God freestyled a lot and made everything from lakes to an ocean. Mountains, cliffs and sandy beaches. Forests and rivers. And rough coastlines (Timmernabben for example). This is why you have everything in this tiny region (Småland means “the small country” in Swedish). If you would ask the chefs that will cook for us at the wedding, Småland is also Swedens Toscana.

Some would say that Småland is pretty much the cliche Sweden. The simple explanation for this is that two very successful marketing people came from this area: Astrid Lindgren and Ingvar Kamprad. They have made sure to put Småland on the map. Many of Astrid Lindgrens stories, like Bullerby, Emil (or Michel in German) from Lönneberga, takes place in Småland. Ingvar still has his IKEA headquarter in Småland (but he pays his taxes in Switzerland). In Berlin Småland is mainly known for the play area at IKEA which often gets miss-used by parents who leaves their kid there throughout the day since they cant get a daycare place.

Timmernabben is located just opposite of the city Borgholm on Öland (known for the great concerts with Roxette – see video below). You can see the castle from timmernabben too.

Öland is by the way a very nice island. More info will follow….

Kalmar city used to be the capital of the Nordic Union  which was founded in 1397 with the Danish Queen as a leader. The castle is still standing and absolute worth visiting. More info will follow….

Other nice things worth mentioning about Småland is that it is a bit off. No major Autobahn.

We will continue to update this page with tips on where to stop for a treat, something to eat or experience. In case you are looking for something specific on a roadtrip, please send us an email – or comment below -and we will help out!
